A homeowner can safely look at the rollers with the door down and the opener disconnected, checking for cracks, flat spots, or loose stems. What we don’t recommend is removing rollers while the door is under spring tension. The bottom rollers in particular sit in brackets that are under load even when the door is closed, and a slip with a pry bar can send a heavy door dropping fast.
